How experimentation transformed our team's way of working: A digital conversion rate optimisation manager's journey

As a Digital Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) Manager, my main goal is to leverage data-driven insights and innovative strategies to drive better outcomes. However, when it comes to improving the efficiency of our internal processes and workflows, we often overlook the opportunity to apply the same principles. In this post, I will share how our team used experimentation to test new ways of working, gaining valuable feedback and learnings that ultimately made us more efficient and effective.

Embracing the experimentation mindset

Just as we focus on experimenting with our websites and campaigns to drive improvements, we decided to apply the same methodology to our internal ways of working.

The first step was to analyse what we were doing now. What was going well, what was causing us issues, what did we feel could be improved, and how did the people we worked with find the experience?

Establishing the experimentation process

Once we had gathered the findings from the analysis, we set out to do the following:

  1. Identify Opportunities: We began by conducting an internal audit of our workflows, processes, and tools to identify potential areas for improvement.

  2. Develop Hypotheses: Based on the identified opportunities, we formulated hypotheses on how we could make our processes more efficient.

  3. Design Experiments: We then developed experiments to test our hypotheses. This involved defining the parameters of each experiment, setting clear goals, and identifying the appropriate metrics to track progress.

  4. Implement and Monitor: With the experiments designed, we rolled them out.

  5. Analyse and Learn: After each experiment's conclusion, we analysed the data and extracted insights that helped us understand the impact of the changes we tested.

  6. Iterate and optimise: We either implemented the changes permanently or refined our hypotheses and continued experimenting based on the learnings.

Conclusion

By embracing the experimentation process to test new ways of working, our team gained valuable feedback and learnings that have significantly improved our efficiency. I encourage other organisations to adopt the experimentation mindset and explore innovative ways to optimise their internal processes and workflows for better results.
